Federal appeals court judge Jon O. Newman and his son took almost 40 years to write a genealogy of the gods. The title of the work reveals some of what the Newmans went through: "A Genealogical Chart of Greek Mythology: Comprising 3,673 Named Figures of Greek Mythology, All Related to Each Other Within a Single Family of 20 Generations." Not only are the accounts of the genealogy of the gods and their descendants contradictory, but they are extremely complicated. Take a look at my Genealogy of Achilles. You'll see there that Zeus appears as great-great-great-grandather once and great-great-great-great-grandather twice on Achilles' father's mother's side. Chaos also appears as an ancestor in several different generations.
