Another Abbreviation From Latin

If you're quoting someone who refers to, say, a book, but without naming it, you may want to use the abbreviation for the Latin word scilicet in order to insert the title parenthetically. For example:
    "[An] important book [sc. The Invention of Racism in Classical Antiquity]... [A]nyone concerned with racism, and more generally with the moral complexity of our civilization, will be profoundly educated by Isaac's magesterial and ethically lucid study."
