The eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in A.D. 79 may have been devastating to the Campanians, but as a result of the volcanic burial of the area and its residents, we have an excellent snapshot of Roman daily life in the first century A.D. Among the evidence unearthed by archaeologists working in the area are Pompeiian frescos and mummified humans, animals, and food.
