Originally, the people of Rome lived in separate settlements around each of the seven hills of Rome. In time they got together for rituals and to drain the swamps, forming the city of Rome. The 7 hills are the
1. Esquiline Hill
2. Palatine
3. Aventine
4. Capitoline
5. Quirinal
6. Viminal
7. Caelian.
The Palatine is currently undergoing archaeological excavations. Recently archaeologists have uncovered the imperial sceptre of the Emperor Maxentius buried on the Palatine.
