5000-Year Old Chewing Gum

An article from the Scotsman.com News, The 5,000-year-old chewing gum, tells about the hypothesized ancient uses of chewing gum. The tar-like material may have been used as an antiseptic to fight gum infections, to loosen loose teeth, or to pacify children. Sarah Pickin, 23, an archaeology student found what appears to be a 5,000-year old piece of tar gum while an a Finnish dig.
