Caesar is our only extant source for Britain of the first century B.C. Iron Age societies lived in Britain when Caesar crossed from Portus Itius (Boulogne) to Deal, northeast of Dover, in 55 and 54. On August 26, 55 BC, Caesar brought two legions across the channel.
