I’m surprised that Publius Cornelius Scipio Africanus Major isn’t mentioned in your ‘eight.’ He embodies the sort of ‘military leadership’ that all generals down the ages aspire to. Nietze obsessed over his legacy, Hannibal’s chronicler’s hated him and attempted to besmirch his record. He was both the most loved and hated Roman leader of his day, and he both loved and hated them back. -Even his greatest deeds have been attributed to others when it was convenient, yet there has only been one Scipio Africanus, perhaps the greatest military leader and strategist who ever lived.
