Even to people unfamiliar with ancient history, Cleopatra is a familiar, exotic name. A supposed beauty, she was involved with some of the most powerful men in Roman history and controlled a wealthy kingdom Rome desired. Cleopatra (January 69 B.C. - August 12, 30 B.C.) was the last pharaoh of Egypt. Following her death, Rome took over the rule of Egypt. Cleopatra was not an Egyptian, however, despite being pharaoh, but a Macedonian of the Ptolemaic dynasty put in place by Alexander the Great's follower Ptolemy.
