There's a story from Norse mythology that when one of the giants stole Thor's hammer, Mjolnir, and refused to give it up unless the most beautiful of the goddesses, Freya, agreed to marry him, Loki persuaded Thor to dress up as the bride, attended by Loki as bridesmaid. So disguised they went to the giant's hall and ate a wedding feast. Each time the giant asked a difficult question -- like "why doesn't my bride speak?" -- Loki would invent an answer good enough to fool a giant. In this way, Loki persuaded the giant to return Mjolnir without loss of Freya. This wasn't the only time Loki impersonated a female, nor was it the only time he helped the gods, but he is known more for his mischief or even malevolence.
