That’s one piece of nice art work. Have a wonderful WW!
Good old Alaric. Always looking for that elusive title!
The blue is so vibrant. It’s an amazing piece of art.
According to an authoritative historical source, by which I mean former-Monty-Python-member Terry Jones’s “Barbarians” TV series, the sack of Rome was pretty low key.
According to Professor Jones, Alaric just took some food and treasure, but didn’t kill the inhabitants or destroy any buildings.
Is that right?
Kallie - You may read what
Procopius wrote.
Gibbon says:
(1)Alaric exhorted his men to respect the churches.
(2)The Goths were mostly interested in wealth.
(3)Especially by their entry at the Salarian Gate, there was a lot of damage by fire to buildings.
(4)Although unknown numbers of plebeians and equestrians were killed, only one senator was killed.
Rome wasn’t the center of the empire at the time.
The color scheme is impressive, I like it. Thanks again for the heads up on the comment issue
So does this make the painting gothic art?
Poor Rome. Goths, Visigoths, Vandals…. and then McDonalds.
Alas! The glorious days of depredation!!!
