ABC News reports, in 4,300-Year-Old Pyramid Discovered in Egypt, that Zahi Hawass has announced the discovery of another pyramid, the 118th Egyptian one so far, a 4300-year-old pyramid in Saqqara (about 12 miles south of Cairo) that probably belongs to the mother of the founder of the 6th Egyptian Dynasty in the Old Kingdom. It's not actually a new discovery, since Hawass' team found it 2 months ago, but it is puzzling that such a tall structure would require discovery. The answer to that is that it was nowhere near as high as the 200-feet-tall step pyramid at Saqqara, even though at 16 feet it was still tall, but it was covered by the ubiquitous sand, and although there was an elevation, what caused it wasn't clear.
