The Corinthian order of Greek architecture is (the most) ornate, as this Corinthian capital shows. The polis of Corinth has lent its name to other familiar items, including Chrysler's fine Corinthian leather, sports teams, and New Testament Pauline epistles. The ancient city itself was situated in an advantageous position with a road across the isthmus facilitating trade with Asia and Italy.
