On This Day in Ancient History - September 16: The Roman Emperor Severus II was part of the four-part imperial division set up by Diocletian and known as the Tetrarchy.

Diocletian didn't know much about Severus (and neither do we) other than that he drank too much. There were other imperial candidates with better qualifications. Conflict between them led to the execution of Severus II on this day in A.D.307.
