Imperial Adoptions

On This Day in Ancient History - February 26: February 26 is the day when two Roman emperors created successors. Neither of the successors was the son of the reigning emperor. Claudius adopted his wife's son, the future Emperor Nero, even though he had a perfectly suitable son of his own, and Hadrian adopted Antoninus Pius as his successor.
