Archaeologists have announced that they believe they have found the spot where Julius Caesar was assassinated. A reader, who sent a link to an MSNBC article, Spot where Julius Caesar was stabbed discovered: Concrete structure believed to mark location of Roman ruler's killing, first alerted me to this discovery, but then (on the Roman History Book Reading Facebook page) I found another link to Caesar slaying site found, a somewhat better article. What do you think of the news?

This is a really exciting bit of archaeological detective work and discovery. I’m just very, very frustrated when I look at the photo that Ms. Pappas posted with her article at Science on NBCNews.com. The photo shows a fairly large area, so how is a reader supposed to know which object in the photo is the concrete structure erected by Augustus to mark the spot where Caesar was attacked? Should could have superimposed an arrow pointing to the object or circled the object. Too bad I’m left here scratching caput meum, as Caesar might have said!
