Birth of Virgil

On This Day in Ancient History - October 15:

In ancient Rome, this was the day that one Roman poet was born (Vergil/Virgil) and another (Lucretius) died.

It is also the day of the rite of the October Horse. This was the occasion of a two-horse chariot race that was followed by a fight between members of two neighborhoods for the right to the head of the right-hand horse of the victorious chariot.
