On This Day in Ancient History: November 17
In A.D. 9, the future Roman emperor Vespasian was born. Vespasian was officially Imperator Titus Flavius Vespasianus Caesar. He was born at Falacrinae, and died June 23, 79, of "diarrhea" at Aquae Cutiliae. He was the first of the Flavian Dynasty, which was the second dynasty of Roman emperors. (The first was the Julio-Claudians.) For fans of Lindsey Davis, the Falco mysteries are set under the reign of Vespasian. Davis also wrote about Vespasian's mistress, Caenis.
On this day in 3 B.C., Jesus was born, according to Clement of Alexandria.

And who can forget Vespasian’s ‘immortal’ last words, “Oh dear, I think I’m becoming a God!”
Of all of the Emperors, he’s the one I’d most want to meet over dinner.
David – Yes! I was beginning to think the only place on my site with those famous last words was in your comments, but I did find it in my review of the cute little Imperial Exits:

I just happen to be reading a Falco mystery now.
How can a Mighty Ruler like Vaspersian die of diarrhoea?
