What's the significance of this character at this time of year?

What a gruesome picture for the holiday season. Yes, I know. It’s Goya, and the story itself is cool. The upside-down feast is also the source of the word satire, I believe.
That looks more like a Halloween image than a Christmas one.
Really though, Cronus swallowed his children whole. The blood seems a little like bloodying up the canvas to excite the audience
