The Cyrus Cylinder Tours the U.S.

By March 25, 2013

Follow me on:

The Cyrus Cylinder, somewhat smaller than an American football, was inscribed with cuneiform about the Babylonian conquest by the sixth century B.C. Persian king Cyrus the Great. Many consider it the first human rights document, but not all translations show it that way. The British Museum provides a translation. You can see the cylinder itself if you live in one of the cities in the U.S. where it is touring this year. It is currently at its first stop, in Washington D.C.
