Aristides was known as "The Just." An illiterate farmer in town to vote for whom to "ostracize," asked Aristides to write down a name on the ballot, which the Greeks called ostraka. Aristides agreed and wrote the name the farmer asked -- Aristides. The farmer's grievance? He was sick and tired of hearing Aristides called "The Just."
