Achilles and Troy

Thetis -- Achilles' mother -- tried to make him immortal using a dipping technique similar to one the goddess Demeter once tried. Thetis didn't realize at the time that she had failed because she had left Achilles vulnerable at his heel, but even this vulnerability did not mean Achilles had to die as young as he did. His life was short, but noble, and he chose it that way knowing that he could have had a long life had he been willing to sacrifice the glory. Achilles The movie Troy, starring Brad Pitt as Achilles, Orlando Bloom as Paris, and Eric Bana as Hector, will be in theaters starting May 14. See pictures from the film.
