Introduction to Early RomeEarly Rome, from the founding of the city by Romulus and Remus (or Aeneas) to the kings, and on through the beginning of the Republic, is a period known mostly through legend. Livy (59 B.C. - 17 A.D.) is the primary historian of the period, but he lived centuries later. Because of the legendary nature of the "history," the main players are larger than life and the Rome that's portrayed is more a "what should have been" than what actually was. Still, we don't have much more to go on and it is an exciting tale. Sign up to read about it!
