Pater Patriae

From Pater Patriae, for About.com

Definition: Pater patriae, father of the country was an honorific title which the Senate first granted Cicero in 63 B.C. It was also awarded to Julius Caesar and then Augustus. Most later emperors held the title, as well, after years of rule. Thus, some of the short-term rulers, Galba, Otho, and Vitellius, never received it.
Also Known As: Father of the country
