The father of Alice, of Alice-in-Wonderland fame, died in 1898. He was H.G. Liddell (February 6, 1811 - January 18, 1898) whose name is well-known by English-speaking students of ancient Greek from the lexicons named A Greek-English Lexicon, but often referred to as Big Liddell, Middle Liddell, and Little Liddell. The lexicon was co-authored by Liddell and Robert Scott.
