Definition:
Artemis was a Greek goddess, the twin sister of Apollo and daughter of Zeus and Leto. Artemis was a virgin and a great hunter. Lack of chastity or boasting about one's skill in the hunt could bring down the implacable wrath of Artemis.
Just as her brother Apollo came to be associated with the moon, so Artemis came to be associated with the moon and Hecate (Hekate).
Diana is the name by which the Romans knew Artemis.
