| Bacchylides |
Bacchylides was a Greek lyric poet, nephew of the poet Simonides, born on the island of Ceos between 518 and 506 B.C. A contemporary of Pindar, Bacchylides wrote hymns, paeans, encomia, and epinician odes for victors in the Panhellenic games.
He was one of the nine Alexandrian canonical lyric poets.
