53 Quaestor
52-51 Cassius served under Marcus Licinius Crassus and repelled the Parthian attacks on Syria.
49 Tribune
49 Civil war between Caesar and the Optimates saved him from being brought to trial for extortion in Syria. Cassius commanded part of Pompey's fleet.
48 After Pompey's defeat at Pharsalus, Cassius became one of Caesar's legates.
44 Praetor peregrinus.
43 He became one of the conspirators against Caesar. After the murder he left Rome for Syria where he defeated Publius Cornelius Dolabellawho had been assigned Syria by the Senate.
42 When Cassius was defeated by Mark Antony and ordered his freedman to kill him near Philippi. Brutus, whose half sister Junia Tertia he had married, called him "the last of the Romans." He was buried Thasos.
