Definition:
The founder of Islam was Muhammad, who was born in A.D. 570. Islam is the name of the religion, but followers of Islam are called Muslims or Moslems. In older texts, Muslims are referred to as Mohammadens. Islam is beyond the scope of this site, since the terminus of Ancient / Classical History at About is A.D. 476.
