Having been the nephew and companion of Marius, he shared his uncle's political sentiments. This put Gaius Julius Caesar at odds with the conservative faction of the aristocracy.
With Crassus and Pompey, he formed the first Triumvirate. However, when Gaius Julius Caesar crossed the Rubicon, he faced Pompey as an enemy. Crossing the Rubicon also made Gaius Julius Caesar a traitor to Rome, but it became a moot point with his show of force.
