Laelius was Roman consul in 140 B.C. He developed a constitutional agrarian plan but dropped it. When the Gracchi favored an agrarian plan of their own, Laelius opposed it and also the supporters of the Gracchi.

Gaius Laelius (Laelius the wise) was a part of the Scipionic Circle and had served with Scipio Aemilianus in Carthage in 146 B.C.
