Definition: Gaius Laelius (Laelius the wise) was a part of the Scipionic Circle and had served with Scipio Aemilianus in Carthage in 146 B.C.

Laelius was Roman consul in 140 B.C. He developed a constitutional agrarian plan but dropped it. When the Gracchi favored an agrarian plan of their own, Laelius opposed it and also the supporters of the Gracchi.
