Hesiod
Hesiod is coupled with Homer as the first great writers of Greek literature. Homer and Hesiod gave the Greeks their gods, according to the historian Herodotus. Hesiod is also the considered the creator of didactic (instructive and moralizing) poetry.

In the epic poem Theogony, Hesiod tells the story of the origin of the world and the gods and goddesses.

It's in the epic poem Works and Days that Hesiod tells about the 5 Ages of Man.
- Hesiod: Shield of Heracles
Probably not written by Hesiod, this fragment of a Greek epic is written in hexameters of which we have 480. It tells the story of Hercules and Iolaus against Cycnus. The shield of Achilles in the the Iliad is the model for the Shield of Heracles.
