Maurya Empire
Timeline of the Mauryan Dynasty
Beginning with territory around the Ganges, the Mauryan kings extended the Indian empire westward to the area Alexander the Great had conquered in Afghanistan, north to the Himalayas and south almost to the tip of the Indian subcontinent. Ashoka the Great, a military leader and convert to Buddhism, is known for his edicts and public works.
