Definition: Writers differ with respect to the apophthegms of the Seven Sages, attributing the same one to various authors. Here's a standard list of the men considered the wisest in Ancient Greece.
  • Bias of Priene (fl. 6th century B.C.)
  • Chilon of Sparta (fl. 6th century B.C.)
  • Cleobulus of Lindus (fl. 6th century B.C.)
  • Periander of Corinth (d. 585 B.C.)
  • Pittacus of Mytilene (c.650 - c. 570 B.C.),
  • Solon
  • Thales of Miletus
