Meleager of Gadara
fl. 1st century B.C.
Meleager was a Greek poet from Gadara, in Syria, who compiled an anthology of epigrams by 50 writers that became the first collection in The Greek Anthology. Since Meleager's introductory poem compared each writer to a flower, the collection is called Stephanos (Garland).
