Dionysus (Bacchus)

Gods/Goddesses Index

Dionysus was the Greek god of wine. He was also a god of agriculture, ecstasy, and fertility.
Dionysus was the son of Zeus and a mortal woman Semele, but after Semele's death before the end of the gestation period for Dionysus, the unborn god was sewn into the thigh of Zeus. Euripides' Bacchae tells the story of what happened to mortal members of his family when they doubted that Semele's lover had been a god.
