| Greek (Roman) God Hephaestus or Hephaistos (Vulcan) |
Hephaestus (Hephaistos) or Vulcan was the blacksmith god. An ugly god who didn't live on Olympus but in his smithy, Hephaestus was married to the most beautiful of the goddesses, Aphrodite (Venus).
Hephaestus was called upon to create the shield for Achilles in the Iliad.
The word volcano comes from the Roman name for Hephaestus, Vulcan, whose forge was associated with the inner workings of volcanoes.
