Rhea and Cronus

Rhea was the daughter of Uranus and Gaea, wife of her brother the Titan Cronus. Together, she and her brother ruled the universe after Cronus castrated Uranus. She was called the Mother of the gods because she gave birth to the Olympians. Cronus was fearful of a prophecy that his son would dethrone him, so he swallowed his children until Rhea gave him a stone wrapped in swaddling as if it were a child. Cronus ate it and Rhea was able to give birth to her son Zeus without his knowing.
When Demeter was grieving over her lost daughter, and not supplying the Earth with food, Rhea persuaded her to let her daughter (Rhea's granddaughter) stay with Hades (Rhea's son) for half the year.
