August 3
ante diem III Nonas August
Supplicia canum
Dogs crucified on elder-wood cross between temples of Iuventus and Summanus. Apparently they were carried around in procession.
Allegedly, because dogs had been asleep when the Gauls under Brennus had assaulted the Capitol. Purple and gold clothed geese were carried around, too, in honor of their having been alert and awakening the Romans who had remained in the city.
A.D. 178 - Marcus Aurelius left Rome to fight the barbarians on the Danube.
