Poseidon - The Lesser Share
Poseidon is defeated by the other godsAthena Persecutes Poseidon
You'd think winning Athens would be enough for his niece, but no, Athena continued to be a thorn in Uncle Poseidon's side.
The Gorgon Medusa wasn't always a hideous creature that turned men to stone. She was a lovely maiden once whom the randy sea god found in the temple of Athena. Consumed with lust he ravaged her. Athena was infuriated with the abuse of her temple and turned the lovely hair of Medusa into snakes and conferred the horrific power upon her. Even then the goddess wasn't satisfied, but found a way to arrange Medusa's death.
If you think that was enough to satisfy the warlike goddess of wisdom, you'd be wrong for from the severed head of Medusa sprang one last obstacle to Athena's triumph over Poseidon and his family -- the offspring of the illicit union in Athena's temple. When Perseus cut off Medusa's head, the winged, wild, and free horse Pegasus sprang forth. To finish her punishment, Athena provided a later hero, Bellerophon, with a magic bridle that enabled him to conquer the horse's essence, to dominate the animal.
