Poseidon - The Lesser Share

Poseidon's Forte

Poseidon had dominion over the sea, so it's small wonder he was able to persuade his creature, the dolphin, to help in his failing quest for a bride. Why should the nymph Amphitrite have been reluctant to wed the powerful sea god? Perhaps for the same reason Hera had at first been reluctant with Zeus. Their men were philanderers. Outside of Olympus, only Hercules seems to have a list of mistresses and offspring that holds a candle to that of either Zeus or Poseidon.
Poseidon
An interesting little page that recounts myths that mirror stories about Zeus: Rhea deceived Cronus by feeding him a foal instead of the infant Poseidon; Poseidon also vied for the hand of Thetis (Achilles' mother).

References to Poseidon in Homer, Hesiod, Plutarch, Apollodorus, Pindar, Plato, Pausanias, and Herodotus.
