Roman School

The Roman word for school is also the word for play or game, but that doesn't mean those youths and adults who attended a ludus didn't have to work hard. Some even fought for their lives -- those in the schools for gladiators. Home education was common. From the early days, the Romans valued instruction in the laws and gravitas.
