Characters in the Aeneid >Achates
Achates is barely more than a name coupled with the epithet "faithful," but he is the constant companion of Aeneas in the Aeneid. Faithful Achates accompanies pious Aeneas when he disembarks at the shore of Carthage in order to explore the terrain. There they encounter Aeneas' mother, Venus, in disguise. Achates later accompanies Aeneas when he goes to the Cumaean Sibyl who will lead Aeneas to the Underworld.
