Characters in the Aeneid >Aeneas
The lead character in the Aeneid is a Trojan prince named Aeneas. Very often the name Aeneas is coupled with the epithet pius 'pious'. The accompanying illustration points to this characteristic of Aeneas. He is shown carrying his aged father, Anchises, on his back to make sure he gets safely out of the burning city of Troy.
