Alcmene was the mother of Hercules and the wife of Amphitryon, but the night she conceived Hercules and his twin brother Iphicles, Alcmene mated with both Zeus, who had disguised himself as her husband, and Amphitryon. As a result, Zeus was Hercules' father, but Amphitryon was the father of Iphicles.
Legendary Greek Mothers
Mortal mothers of legendary heroes -- including Hercules' mother Alcmene -- had important (if lesser) roles in the ancient Greek epics of Homer and drama of the tragedians Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides.
Rhadamanthys
Rhadamanthys was the second husband of Alcmene.
Alcmena
Carlos Parada's page on the mother of Hercules, Alcmena. Alcmena mated with three men, her first husband Amphitryon, Zeus (she was Zeus' last mortal woman), and Rhadamanthys, the son of Zeus and Europa. Alcmena ordered the execution of her son's nemesis Eurystheus and lived to old age.
