"A History of Rome," by Robert Fowler Leighton. New York: Clark & Maynard. 1888
Octavian, who would become the first Roman Emperor, Augustus, rose to power largely because of his connection with Julius Caesar. Caesar adopted his young relative, but that wasn't known until after Caesar had died. This chart of the genealogy of Emperor Augustus shows the family relationship between Octavian and Julius Caesar. The top figure is the Julius Caesar's grandfather. Julius Caesar's sister Julia Minor is Augustus' grandmother.
