Julius Caesar is one of the most important people in the history of the world. The fabric of the Roman republic was growing weak, but when he started annexing Europe, started a civil war, and incited his own assassination by men lacking his brains or a backup plan, Caesar created a power vacuum that was filled by the first of the emperors of Rome.
