Polyphemus is sleeping against the wall of his cave with bones of whatever animal he has eatern beside him. Since Polyphemus has been eating Odysseus' crew, Odysseus is anxious to escape as soon as possible. the first part of his plan is to blind the sleeping giant and then to escape when the blinded Polyphemus lets his sheep out in the morning. The crew of Odysseus will use the sheep to hide under.
