Definition: Upper Egypt, as distinguished from Lower Egypt, is the area south of Asyut.
It is divided into a southern and northern sector with the northern running from Asyut to Luxor and the southern, from Luxor to the first cataract.
It lies along the Nile Valley, and includes the fertile areas and deserts.
Upper Egypt was settled by 4500 B.C.
