Upper Egypt

Definition: Upper Egypt, as distinguished from Lower Egypt, is the area south of Asyut. Upper Egypt is divided into a southern and northern sector with the northern running from Asyut to Luxor and the southern, from Luxor to the first cataract. Upper Egypt is an area along the Nile Valley, including the fertile areas and the deserts. Upper Egypt was settled by 4500 B.C.
