Manetho - Priest and Historian of Ancient Egypt

Definition: Manetho is called the Father of Egyptian History, although only fragments of his writing survive. He was an Egyptian priest from approximately 300 B.C. who divided the kings of Egypt into the dynasties by which we still classify them. The fragments of his history are found in Africanus (early third century A.D.), Eusebius (early fourth century A.D.), Josephus (70 A.D.), and Syncellus (about 800 A.D.).
