Definition: Macrinus was born c. 164, in Caesarea, Mauretania, and died June 218, in Bithynia. As a Roman emperor, Macrinus' claim to fame is that he was the first Roman emperor to have achieved that exalted status without having first been senator. Macrinus was a praetorian prefect under Caracalla in whose murder he was suspected of having been involved.
